Detailed Itinerary of the 12 Days Rwenzori, Gorilla trek & Wildlife Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable Forest National Park
You are welcomed y a driver guide who takes you through a meet and greet session about the 12 Days Rwenzori, Gorilla Trek & Wildlife Safari. Later, he shall transfer you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park known to inhabit the rare species of Mountain Gorillas in Uganda. Lunch is en-route then later proceed to Bwindi and check-in lodge for Dinner and overnight. Silverback Lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Forest National Park
Breakfast in the morning then transfer to the park headquarters for short briefing on the conduct around the Mountain Gorillas. On reaching here, you are welcomed by a ranger guide who informs you about Bwindi Forest National Park, Mountain Gorillas and the trekking adventure then later, he shall locate you into groups of 8 with lead park rangers.
You shall then proceed to the green forest to trek the Gorillas following varying trails in the park for a period of 3 to 5 hours traversing from one point to another. You shall get information from the rangers with trackers about the location of the Gorillas then later, you shall meet the Gorillas and in an hour you shall stay in their presence taking many photos to keep at a distance of 7 meters using a camera that has no flash. After trekking the Gorillas, you shall return back to your lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Silverback Lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Breakfast in the morning then transfer to the stunning Queen Elizabeth National Park located a few kilometers off requiring you to transfer for a period of 4 hours watching the green terrain, bird species, Rwenzori Mountain at a distance and lunch. After a while, you shall reach the Park and enjoy an afternoon Game Drive watching many wildlife animals wander around their natural vegetation habitat and the animals you watch include; lions, elephants, hippos, buffalo, leopards, various antelopes, bush buck duiker, waterbuck, topis, hyenas, etc. After the Game Drive, you shall proceed to check-in lodge for relaxation, Dinner and Overnight. Day 4: Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park
Breakfast in the morning then embark on an en-route Game Drive watching wildlife animals wander around their natural vegetation habitat. The wildlife animals you watch include; lions, elephants, hippos, buffalo, leopards, various antelopes, bush buck duiker, waterbuck, topis, hyenas, etc. Take various photos to keep. Lunch is en-route then after a while, you shall transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park where you go straight to check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Ruboni Community Camp.
Day 5: Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba (2650m)
After breakfast in the morning, embark on hike from Nyakalengija up to Nyabitaba hut following through banana plantations on the side of the sharp slopes via the indigenous Bakonjo homesteads. Proceed on trek alongside Mubuku River, through mudslides and up and down pillars and cliffs. You traverse the Mahoma River and ascend through halt fern hills and pod carpus forest to Nyabitaba Hut. Dinner and overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.
Day 6: Climb to John Matte hut (3350m)
Transfer from Nyabitaba Hut to the trail that goes down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, just below the convergence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Transferring through the bamboo forest, and glassy moss-topped rock. While at the Nyamileju rock housing, you view Mount Stanley and Mount Speke before heading into the zone of the massive heather, groundsel and lobelia. Arrive at John Matte Hut after walking through the exhausting swamp. Dinner and Overnight John Matte hut.
Day 7: Hike to Bujuku Hut
From John Matte Hut, transfer downwards to the Bujuku River. The higher Bigo Swamp gives path to Bujuku Lake, with sights of Mt Stanley to the west and Mt Baker to the South. Bujuku Hut is well situated in the follower of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, is established in a narrow valley under Steinmann pass. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku Hut.
Day 8: Ascend to Kitandara hut
Departing from Bujuku, the trail ascents through steep slopes west of the lake, going through the enchanted Groundsels Gully as it climbs to Scott-Elliot Pass at 4372m. At the top of the gorge a metallic ladder takes you over a vertical area after which the trail separates into two. The right trail going up to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a sharp trail over large rocks. The left path goes to Scott. Elliot passes and down to Kitandara Lakes. Dinner and overnight at kitandara hut.
Day 9: Climbing to the Peak Margherita
When ascending to Margherita summit (5109m), carry on to the slopes of the Stanley Glacier. This can take you a period of 4 to 7 hours to reach the summit of Margherita. While climbing to the peak, you shall need to embark on a technical climb that includes more of roping up, crampons and suitable gears for cold, stormy and frosty conditions. It is greatest to challenge the last hike in group of 4 people (two climbers and two guides); hike on to the glacier, cross the Stanly Hill and continue with the climb. Coming back to Scott- Elliot pass, slope to the Kitandara Hut for overnight, past the Kitandara Lakes. Dinner and overnight at Kitandara Hut.
Day 10: Hike Mt Stanley to Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m)
From Kitandara, the trail ascends steeply up the head-wall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the mountain to Fresh field pass. From the pass, the long muddy descent continues, passing the rock shelter at Bujangolo known to be the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi. Dinner and Overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut.
Day 11: Trek through Nyabitaba (2650m) to Nyakalengija
Enjoy precise breakfast then embark on a hike descending via the trail which is slippery and muddy with little to hold on to requiring you to have balance over the vertical mud or steep rock. On your trek, you shall view Lake Mahoma where you leave from to the park head quarters for your trekking certificates upon your successful trek. An overnight stop at the Nyabitaba Hut.
Day 12: Departure to Kampala
Breakfast then with luggage check-out of lodge to transfer on journey to Kampala with en-route lunch in Fort portal town. After a while, you shall reach Kampala then proceed to Entebbe International Airport to board flight back home.
