Lake Ravelobe

Lake Ravelobe is a small but ecologically rich freshwater lake situated within Ankarafantsika National Park in northwestern Madagascar. Though modest in size, this lake plays a vital role in the park’s ecosystem, supports various forms of life—including rare and endemic species—and holds cultural importance for local communities. Due to its strategic location and ecological value, Lake Ravelobe is an important component of both Madagascar’s conservation efforts and eco-tourism industry.

Lake Ravelobe lies close to the park’s main entrance and adjacent to Route Nationale 4 (RN4), making it highly accessible to visitors and researchers.

Despite its small size, Lake Ravelobe hosts a rich assemblage of wildlife and contributes significantly to local biodiversity, especially as part of the Ankarafantsika ecosystem, which includes dry deciduous forests, marshes, and savannas.

White-throated Rail, egrets, herons, and many others

Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) live in the lake and are often seen sunbathing near the shores.
