Watamu Marine National Park
Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve, established in 1968, is Kenya’s first marine park and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Located approximately 120 km north of Mombasa and 28 km south of Malindi, it offers a rich tapestry of marine biodiversity and coastal beauty.

Getting There
By Road: From Nairobi, it’s approximately a 6-hour drive via the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. From Mombasa, it’s about a 2-hour drive.
By Air: Fly into Malindi Airport, approximately 28 km from Watamu, with daily flights from Nairobi and Mombasa.
By Rail: Take the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Nairobi or Mombasa to Miritini, then connect to Watamu by road.
Best Time to Visit
- Diving & Snorkeling: Best from December to March when water clarity is optimal.
- Dolphin Watching: October to early April.
- Turtle Nesting: Nesting occurs from November to February.
- Bird Watching: Year-round, with peak migratory periods from October to April.
